Advisor Feedback Form
AAA is developing an advisor feedback form that will allow advisees to provide feedback to their academic advisors. We hope this will increase the overall effectiveness of advising by informing advisors of their strengths and drawing their attention to areas where they can improve their advising.
Performance Space Evaluation
We are reaching out to various centers on campus to conduct an evaluation of the use of different spaces on campus. We hope this will provide both the student body and the university with valuable information about how to mitigate our deficit in available performance space on campus.
Expansion of Study Spaces
ASS is working with administrators to expand hours of availability of certain study spaces on campus, in particular the Rockefeller Library. When the University expanded hours last semester during finals, this was very popular with students. We want to enable students to take full advantage of our resources.
Accessibility of Online Resources
ASS is working with Computing and Information Services to promote the accessibility of new online resources to Brown students. In the past year, we have greatly increased the number of these resources. These now include Philo, a television-streaming service, and many Adobe Creative Cloud applications. We want to ensure that all students know about these and can access them.
Whether you’re tackling the housing lottery for the first time, potentially thinking about joining a program house, or even thinking about living campus, Campus Life wants to provide you with answers. We will be evaluating living spaces, as well detailing out processes and deadlines in an easy-to-understand way.
The Student Activities Committee is working on compiling an information sheet that clearly lists what the committee looks for in a student group of each category so as to make the process more transparent and easier to navigate.
SA Fee Increase
UCS is working with the Undergraduate Finance Board (UFB) and University Resources Committee (URC) to increase the per-student fee (separate from tuition increases) used by the University to fund all student activities at Brown for the 2016-2017 academic year. This fee increase would allow UFB to maintain current levels of funding for student activities and better support student groups.
Revamping UCS Code of Operations
After making some changes to UCS’s internal structure over the summer of 2015, we are now working to revamp our Code of Operations to better reflect how the Council operates and to streamline our governing document’s language. You can find all UCS governing documents online here.
Strengthening Student-Alumni Relations
We are currently working with Maddock Alumni Center on several initiatives to strengthen students’ ties with Brown alumni, including potential new mentorship programs, more interaction while alumni are on campus for events, and using our local alumni network to support students who remain at Brown over breaks.
Free Airport Shuttles
We are working with the Transportation Office to re-establish free shuttles to and from T.F. Green Airport just before and after major breaks, as many students are leaving and returning to campus.
Free Movie Screenings
We hope to begin hosting more free movie screenings (with free food!) on campus to provide regular alternative social events on weekend nights.
Bear Bucks on Thayer Street
We are beginning to work with Computing and Information Services and the Thayer Street District Management Authority to allow Brown students to use Bear Bucks as a form of payment at select establishments around campus.
UCS Archival Project
We are currently undergoing an intensive review of UCS documents and digitizing our physical archives to create a robust database for UCS archived material.
UCS has its information available on its website for anyone to see. In increasing transparency between UCS and the student body, through various means, we are making the website more accessible. This includes putting faces to the body through adding pictures of executive board members, reorganizing tabs, adding more graphics, and adding in graphics and colors for a more inviting and aesthetically-pleasing platform.
